Editing Celeb atheist tips

The following page will contain tips on how to edit and create posts on Celebatheists.com. If you want to help but don't know which names to add to the database you can view the to do list.

Editing rules, editing conventions, and formatting

The number one rule of wiki editing, is to be bold. Dive in and make changes. Other people can correct mistakes later, so have confidence, and give it a try! There can be all kinds of editing conventions, rules, and philosophy governing the editing of wiki pages, but the "be bold" rule overrides these!

In general try to write clearly and concisely and make sure you are always aiming to do something which improves the wiki contents. An edit might be to contribute whole paragraphs or pages full of information, or it could be as simple as fixing a typo or spelling mistake.

When you need to use some type of formatting e.g. new headings or bold text, you do this using wiki syntax or the buttons in the edit toolbar above. See Help:Formatting for some of the common types of formatting used.

Posting an image

PersonSidebar is intended to have additional fields about a person, such as born, death, occupation, nationality, etc. Kind of like what Wikipedia provides to the upper right in its person articles. I could add a description field there, but more specific fields may be appropriate.

INFO ABOUT PERSON SIDEBAR WILL BE HERE SOON

PersonImage is a template XC setup. Doing useful things with templates is somewhat of a black art. Some stuff can be simple. Here is a starter for templates in general: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Templates

File:Christopher hitchens.jpg
Christopher Hitchens

Images can be used from wikicommons. If I am writing the article for Christopher Hitchens I can visit: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki and do a search for Christopher Hitchens. Find a page with a photo that I like, and look at the file name for the .jpg in the url of the image. The image size will automatically get changed to a small size. Cut and paste the image name into the code below. (you can cheat and click "use this file on a wiki but it won't have the description field)

PersonImage is intended to be a template for including a picture of a person and possibly have fields added to it. A description field is available under the new "desc" parameter.

The following image coding would yield a view of the picture of Christopher Hitchens that you see posted on the right. {{PersonImage|img=Christopher_hitchens.jpg|desc=Christopher Hitchens}}
